Ingredients
For the Potato Layer
3 large potatoes, peeled and sliced into ¼-inch (6 mm) rounds
1 large white onion, finely chopped
2 tablespoons olive oil
Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish
For the Meatballs
500 g (1 lb) ground beef
1 large egg
½ cup breadcrumbs
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
For the Creamy Cheese Topping
200 ml (¾ cup) heavy cream
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard (optional)
50 g (¼ cup) grated Parmesan cheese
200 g (7 oz) shredded mozzarella, Gruyère, or cheddar cheese

Instructions
1. Preheat the oven to 190°C (375°F).
2. Boil the sliced potatoes for 8–10 minutes until just tender. Drain and set aside.
3. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, egg, breadcrumbs, garlic, onion powder, paprika, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
4. Mix gently and form into small meatballs.
5. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet and brown the meatballs for about 5–6 minutes. Remove and set aside.
6. In the same skillet, sauté the chopped onion until soft and lightly golden.
7. In a small bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, Dijon mustard, and Parmesan cheese.
8. Grease a baking dish and arrange half of the potato slices in an even layer.
9. Scatter the sautéed onions over the potatoes.
10. Arrange the browned meatballs evenly on top.
11. Cover with the remaining potato slices.
12. Pour the cream mixture evenly over the casserole.
13. Sprinkle generously with the shredded cheese.
14. Bake for 30–35 minutes, until the cheese is golden brown and bubbling and the meatballs are fully cooked.
15. Let the casserole rest for 5–10 minutes before garnishing with fresh parsley and serving.
