Homemade Bubble Gum
Ingredients:
2 cups granulated sugar
1/2 cup corn syrup
1/2 teaspoon gelatin
1/4 teaspoon citric acid (optional, for a sour kick)
1/2 cup powdered sugar (for dusting)
A few drops of flavoring extract (peppermint, strawberry, bubblegum, etc.)
Food coloring (optional, for fun colors)
Heat-safe mixing bowl
Saucepan
Spoon for stirring
Plastic mat or wax paper (for kneading)
Directions:
Prepare the Workspace:
Lay out wax paper or a plastic mat dusted lightly with powdered sugar to prevent sticking.
Heat the Mixture:
In a saucepan, combine the granulated sugar, corn syrup, and 2 tablespoons of water. Stir gently and heat over medium heat until the sugar dissolves completely.
Add Gelatin and Citric Acid:
Sprinkle in the gelatin and citric acid, stirring until fully dissolved. This gives your gum the right texture and a slight tang if you want it sour.
Remove from Heat:
Carefully pour the hot mixture into a heat-safe bowl. Let it cool for 1–2 minutes but not long enough to harden.
Flavor and Color:
Stir in a few drops of your chosen flavoring extract and food coloring, mixing well to distribute evenly.
Knead the Gum:
Dust your hands with powdered sugar. Transfer the mixture to your wax paper or mat and knead carefully until smooth and pliable. Add extra powdered sugar if it’s too sticky.
Shape It:
Roll into small balls, sticks, or fun shapes. Wrap pieces in wax paper to keep them fresh.
Enjoy:
Chew and enjoy your homemade bubble gum! Store leftovers in an airtight container.
