Cream-Filled Stuffed Donuts (Soft & Fluffy Homemade Treat
Ingredients
For the Dough:
1 cup warm milk (lukewarm, not hot
1 tablespoon active dry yeast
3 tablespoons powdered sugar
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
For the Cream Filling:
2 cups milk
1 whole egg
5 egg yolks
¼ cup cornstarch
½ cup sugar
¼ cup margarine (or butter)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
1. Prepare the Dough:
Start by warming the milk until it’s just lukewarm. In a large bowl, combine the milk with the yeast, powdered sugar, and vegetable oil. Stir gently until the yeast begins to dissolve.
Add the flour and salt gradually, mixing until a soft, slightly sticky dough forms. Knead the dough using a mixer (or by hand) for about 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Transfer the dough into a lightly greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 30–60 minutes, or until doubled in size.
2. Shape & Fry the Donuts:
Once risen, place the dough on a lightly floured surface and gently flatten it with your hands. Roll it out to about 1–1.5 cm thickness.
Use a round cutter (or a glass) to cut out donut shapes. Heat oil in a deep pan over medium heat, then fry the donuts in batches for 2–3 minutes per side, until golden brown.
Remove and place on paper towels to absorb excess oil.
3. Prepare the Cream Filling:
In a bowl, whisk together the egg, egg yolks, sugar, and cornstarch until smooth and lump-free.
Heat the milk separately until warm (not boiling), then gradually pour it into the egg mixture while whisking continuously.
Transfer the mixture to a saucepan over medium heat. Stir constantly until it thickens into a creamy custard. Remove from heat, then stir in the margarine and vanilla extract until smooth and glossy.
Allow the cream to cool slightly.
4. Fill the Donuts:
Transfer the cream into a piping bag fitted with a small tip. Make a small hole in each donut and gently fill with the custard cream.
5. Final Touch:
Dust the filled donuts generously with powdered sugar for a classic finish.
Tips for Perfect Donuts:
Make sure the milk isn’t too hot, or it may kill the yeast.
Fry at medium heat to avoid burning the outside while keeping the inside raw.
Let the cream cool slightly before filling to avoid melting the donuts.
