Ingredients

For the Dough

4 cups (500 g) all-purpose flour

¼ cup (50 g) granulated sugar

2¼ teaspoons (7 g) instant yeast

1 teaspoon salt

1 cup (240 ml) warm milk

2 large eggs

¼ cup (60 g) unsalted butter, melted

For the Vanilla Cream Filling

2 cups (480 ml) whole milk

½ cup (100 g) granulated sugar

3 egg yolks

¼ cup (30 g) cornstarch

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

2 tablespoons unsalted butter

For the Glaze

1½ cups (180 g) powdered sugar

2–3 tablespoons milk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

Prepare the Dough

In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.

Add the warm milk, eggs, and melted butter.

Mix until a dough forms, then knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Make the Vanilla Cream

Heat the milk in a saucepan until warm but not boiling.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the sugar, egg yolks, and cornstarch.

Slowly pour the warm milk into the egg mixture while whisking constantly.

Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over medium heat until thickened.

Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and butter.

Cover the surface with plastic wrap and let cool completely.

Shape the Buns

Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 12 equal portions.

Flatten each piece slightly and place a spoonful of vanilla cream in the center.

Seal the edges carefully and shape into smooth balls.

Arrange on a lined baking tray, leaving space between each bun.

Cover and let rise for another 30–40 minutes.

Bake

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

Bake for 18–22 minutes or until lightly golden on top.

Allow the buns to cool for 10 minutes.

Glaze

Whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.

Drizzle or spread over the warm buns.

Tips for Perfect Buns

Make sure the milk is warm, not hot, to avoid

damaging the yeast.

Chill the vanilla cream before filling the buns for easier shaping.

Seal the dough well to keep the filling from leaking during baking.

Enjoy fresh the same day for the softest texture and best flavor.

These bakery-style vanilla cream buns are soft, sweet, and filled with pure comfort in every bite. Perfect for breakfast, dessert, or sharing with friends and family—if they last that long!
