Hungarian Jam Tarts

We grew up enjoying these jam tarts.

My mom would fill her old fashioned biscuit tin with her jam tarts which would disappear in no time!

Fill your cookie jar with some of the delectable jammy squares

 

INGREDIENTS

500g butter

5 1/2 Cups Flour (five and a half cups)

1 Cup sugar

6 Tsp baking powder

1 Tsp Salt

2 Tsp Vanilla essence

6 Eggs

Jam of your choice – it has to be All Gold smooth apricot jam – mom used nothing else!

Method

Cream butter and sugar, add eggs, one at a time stirring well between each addition.

Add vanilla essence and mix everything together.

Sift dry ingredients into creamed mixture and mix everything, I find using my hands work better.

 

Take a 1/4 (quarter) of the dough and put it in a freezer for 30 minutes.

Press the rest of the dough into a Swiss roll baking tray. Spread over the apricot jam.

Now grate the dough from the freezer over the apricot jam.

Bake in a

Preheated oven: 180C

For 20 to 25 minutes until its golden brown

Cut into squares.

Note; this makes a large tart. You can divide the ingredients to make a smaller tart.
